When you first open the app, you'll see the home screen with a Hiragana learning card marked "Start Here." Tap it to begin your first lesson. The app will guide you through the Japanese writing systems step by step — starting with Hiragana, then Katakana, and finally Kanji.
Nihongo Learn covers all five JLPT levels from N5 (beginner) through N1 (advanced). Each level includes 30 guided lessons covering vocabulary, grammar patterns, and sentence structures — 150 lessons total.
Coins are earned by completing lessons, daily challenges, and playing mini-games in the Game Parlor. You can use coins to unlock themes, avatars, and badges in the Shop. The Game Parlor includes Gacha (with daily free spins), Blackjack 21, and Roulette. Answer study questions correctly to boost your winnings!
Yes! Go to the Offline Mode screen (tap the Wi-Fi icon on the home screen) and tap "Download for Offline Use." All core lessons will be available without an internet connection. Your progress will sync automatically when you're back online. The download is approximately 5 MB.
The built-in Currency Converter lets you quickly convert Japanese Yen (JPY) to other currencies with live exchange rates. Tap the yen icon (¥) on the home screen to access it. It supports quick amounts (¥1,000, ¥5,000, ¥10,000, ¥50,000) and popular currencies including USD, EUR, GBP, and more.
Themes change the look and feel of your app. You can unlock themes through Gacha spins or purchase them in the Shop with coins. To equip a theme, go to Shop > Themes and tap "Equip" on any unlocked theme. Themes range from Common to Legendary rarity.
Pitch Accent Practice helps you perfect your Japanese pronunciation. You'll see a word with its reading, then tap "Listen to Native" to hear the correct pronunciation. Tap "Your Turn" to record yourself and compare. The app shows the pitch pattern type (Heiban, Atamadaka, etc.) to help you understand the melody of Japanese.
Open Nihongo Learn on your new device and make sure you're signed in with the same Apple ID. Go to Settings within the app and tap "Restore Purchases." All previously purchased content will be restored automatically.
